HR Classification Title: Director of Executive Legal Education
Work Status: Full-time Regular

Specific Work Schedule:
Posting Options: Internal and External
Position Summary:
  • The LLS vision of Executive Legal Education (ELE) would deliver suites of courses in high-demand topical areas that would amplify the skills and value of executive non-lawyers.
  • The guiding principles for each are that any programming must meet a need that exists in the world, leverage LLS strengths and take actions that are consistent with and grow our brand in positive directions, and generate revenue in excess of all costs associated with program, including program director position.
  • The fundamental idea is that organizations could utilize training and education that improves substantive knowledge and legal acumen among mid-level and executive-level management, but at a lower price-point than, and without the full academic burden of, a full-fledged degree. In addition, individuals attempting to make leaps (or pivots) in their careers could use the education to build skills and to indicate their interest to prospective employers.
  • We would need to build partnerships with selected business and industries. Working with our partners to develop both content (what courses) and delivery (e.g., online, at the Law School, at Westchester, at the partner’s business location). By piloting in partnership with industry leaders, we hope to develop something that could then scale to “retail” a program that appeals to individuals.
  • Loyola could offer certificates or other markers of successful completion of programs.
  • The position will initially report to and work with the Dean, but would ultimately roll up into the structure of the Graduate Programs (including LLM and MLS degrees) and likely report to the Associate Dean of Graduate Programs and Strategic Initiatives, coordinating with the Associate Dean of Finance and Administration.
  • The first priority will be to work with the Dean, the Associate Dean of Graduate Programs and Strategic Initiatives, and the Associate Dean of Finance and Administration to craft a business plan. This will involve an analysis of the greatest market opportunities, identified by industry, potential course content, and the range of delivery methods. This plan should identify the initial phase of potential student and industry outreach. LLS has conducted some initial market research, but the Director of ELE will need to make an assessment of additional needs. This will also include an evaluation of existing resources and assets at LLS. This plan should be completed by the end of calendar year 2017.
Position Specific Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with the management team to develop and implement plans for the program infrastructure (programming, systems, processes, and staff) designed to accommodate variation in programs.
  • Translates ELE goals for key collaborators to create meaningful program development: identifying markets; financially sound; flexible course design and program delivery.
  • Develops and maintains industry relationships including but not limited to: various sectors of business, corporations, professional organizations, government entities, etc.
  • Explores alternate, non-traditional modalities for delivery, for example, international using remote classroom technology, at an organization’s facilities, maximizing known Continuing Legal Education models.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership and management that mirrors the adopted mission and core values of LLS.
  • Understanding of legal education, both in its traditional form but also ability to think creatively about new delivery models.
  • Ability to work with law school administration and faculty to leverage existing resources toward delivery of these new models of education.
  • Ability and experience in sales and marketing, ideally of educational products.
  • Demonstrated administrative and management experience.
  • Someone who has helped sell educational products, either in non-traditional markets or affiliated with professional school.
  • Ability to work with technical team to teach in new formats using new technologies.
  • Ability to work and partner with external constituencies.
